This auto show is certainly a busy one, with cars debuting left and right. Here are some vehicles that have been refreshed or redesigned that I thought are worth giving my opinion on.
Let's start with the new Toyota Avalon. The car is overall contemporary and stylish, but the front looks like it's wearing a mouth guard. For me, something with more dimension would work better. I'm also a detractor of the capacitive buttons, which are frustrating to use.
Next up are the Subaru Legacy and Outback. They have been refreshed and bring a new CVT, four cylinder, as well as safety systems previously unheard of in this class. I've grown used to their styling.
The ES from Lexus has also been redesigned. This generation brings a hybrid version, fresh multimedia systems, and better dynamics. I think the car looks way to fat on the outside, while the the steering wheel looks to minuscule for such a large and luxurious car.
Chevrolet's Impala, a rental car company favorite, has been drastically overdone for the 2014 model year. It comes with front styling reminiscent of the first generation Volkswagen CC, new driver assistance technologies, and better quality overall.
While the Buick Enclave hasn't been completely overhauled, it still is fresh. In my opinion, the front end looks a tad unfinished, in a way that I can't put words on. Otherwise, it does offer substantial upgrades over the current Enclave.
The new Mercedes Benz GL is at the New York show, too. It looks a lot like the M-Class, especially inside. Enough said.
The Nissan Altima, now the second best selling sedan in the country, is redesigned for the 2013 model year. It gets sky high fuel economy, new multimedia functions and is a better overall car. I really despise the interior of the new car, however. It looks too similar the Versa's.
Now the the beast of the show: the new SRT Viper. It features a revised version of its V-10, and has more refinement than before. Brute power is still its specialty, with 640 horsepower on tap.
