The European and U.S. Honda Civics are loosely based on each other, but the only similarity anyone will be able to see is the shared steering wheel. As you can tell from the photos, the European Civic sports a much more audacious design.
The Civic Tourer is the station wagon variant of the Civic in Europe. The new generation was previewed by the Civic Tourer Concept earlier this year at the Geneva Auto Show. It does not stray far at all from the Concept's looks. The Civic Tourer has a ground-hugging stance and intricate shapes that will surely separate itself from other wagons on European roads.
Engine choices include an Earth Dreams 1.6-liter diesel four-cylinder engine and a non-Earth Dreams 1.8-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine borrowed from the American Civic. Of course, you have the option of a manual transmission or an automatic transmission on both engines.
The cargo area is set up much like Honda's Fit, with its flip-and-fold Magic Seat rear bench. With the rear seats in the upright position, there is 22 cubic feet of cargo space behind them. Flipping and folding the rear seats yields 59 cubic feet of cargo volume. You can also flip just the bottom cushions up to fit tall items through the side doors.
New to Honda is an Adaptive Damper System. It is offered with the 2014 Civic Tourer for the rear suspension, and the driver can select a suspension mode of either Comfort, Normal, or Dynamic.
No on sale dates have been announced yet, but American readers won't want to know one anyways.
