Volvo has been known for making safe vehicles (in fact, the S60 was one of the two cars that scored "Good" in IIHS's new small overlap test), but this recall might affect your opinions. In any case, it isn't that big of a deal.
A software anomaly in the tire pressure monitoring system is causing the 300 affected cars to not be able to turn on the low tire pressure light when the tire pressure gets low. Under inflated tires make your car handle differently and use more fuel.
Volvo hasn't said when they'll spread word to owners about this problem, but Volvo dealers will repair the affected cars for free of charge. If you more questions about this recall, please call NHTSA's safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or Volvo at 1-800-458-1552.
