2014 Mazda3 Pricing

Now in its third generation for the 2014 model year, Mazda's 3 compact car has been acclaimed to have an engaging driving experience seldom found in the compact car segment. After it has been redesigned, it also happens to wear some striking "Kodo" design language sheet metal.

The Mazda3 will come with two engines: the SKYACTIV 2-liter, 155-horsepower four-cylinder gasoline engine and the SKYACTIV 2.5-liter, 184-horsepower four-cylinder gasoline engine. All trim levels with the 2-liter engine will have the option of choosing either a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission, but choosing the automatic transmission will cost $1050 over choosing the manual. The 2.5-liter engine can only be optioned on the Touring and Grand Touring trims, and it comes paired exclusively to the six-speed automatic transmission for now.

To tell whether a certain Mazda3 has the 2-liter or 2.5-liter engine, you can look at the letter in front of the trim level name. An "i"symbolizes that the car has the 2-liter engine while an "s" signifies that the 2.5-liter engine is under the hood.

For 2014, the Mazda3 returns with both the sedan and five-door hatchback body styles. The extra cargo room of the hatchback will cost you, as hatchback versions will be $500 more expensive than identically equipped sedans.

The cheapest you can get a 2014 Mazda3 is $17740, including a $795 destination fee. That gets you the i SV, which has features such as push-button start, remote keyless entry, power windows, power locks, a USB and auxiliary ports for the stereo, power-folding mirrors, air conditioning, a single-piece folding rear seat, and disc brakes at all 4 wheels. The i SV is the only trim level that is sedan-only.

Next up is the i Sport. It costs $19240 to start and comes with steering wheel-mounted audio controls, Bluetooth, a trip computer, CD player, map lights, body-color-painted side mirrors, and a 60/40 split folding rear seat.

The $20390 i Touring trim is equipped with 16-inch aluminum wheels, chrome exterior trim, a rear armrest, keyless entry, leather-wrapped steering wheel, shift knob, and handbrake; rear spoiler, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Touring trim has an available $1600 Touring Technology package that adds a 7-inch touchscreen, a navigation system, a backup camera, automatic dual-zone climate control, XM satellite radio, and a 9-speaker Bose audio system.

The $25390 s Touring trim gains 18-inch wheels, bi-xenon headlights, a piano-black-finished grille, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, fog lights, paddle shifters, a sport mode for the 6-speed automatic transmission, a head-up display, a power driver's seat, heated front seats, and fake leather seat upholstery and door-panel trim. The Touring Technology package is standard.

The $23540 i Grand Touring adds to the i Touring's feature list a power driver's seat, heated front seats, and fake leather seat upholstery and door-panel trim; and a moonroof. The Touring Technology package from the i Touring trim is optional is optional as well.

At the top of the trim level hierarchy is the $26790 s Grand Touring. It adds automatic headlights with adaptive and automatically-leveling headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatically-dimming rearview mirror, genuine leather seats, and a moonroof on top of the s Touring's standard features. The s Grand Touring's $1600 Touring Technology has Mazda's i-ELOOP regenerative-braking system, active grille shutters, automatic-high-beam control, lane-departure warning, and a low-speed collision mitigation system.

i sedans with the manual transmission have EPA fuel economy ratings of 30/41 city/highway miles per gallon, and 29/41 city/highway miles per gallon. Subtract 1 mile per gallon from the i sedans' highway ratings and you get the i hatchbacks' fuel economy ratings.

For s models, the sedan model is rated at 28/39 city/highway miles per gallon while the hatchback is rated at 28/37 city/highway miles per gallon. i-ELOOP-equipped s Grand Touring Mazda3s are rated at 29/40 city/highway miles per gallon of the sedan and 29/39 city/highway miles per gallon for the hatchback.

The 2014 Mazda3 goes on sale this September.

2003 Honda Odyssey EX-L Review

These pictures aren't of the actual vehicle, but the colors and trim level are correct. Those of you who have been following this blog since its inception know that my parents have two cars: a 2006 Nissan Sentra and a 2005 Mazda MPV. Well, we recently swapped our dear little MPV for a 2003 Odyssey.  The reason for that is, well, there isn't much reason. It's mostly to spice things up in our lives and have a different car for a change without spending any extra money. Our Odyssey came with every bell and whistle you could get in a minivan in 2003, including a factory-installed DVD entertainment system, leather seats, heated seats in the front, and dual power sliding doors.  First impressions were a mixed bag. The engine was very smooth, quiet, and powerful, apparently typical of Hondas, but there was a rough patch between 1000 and 1500 RPM or so. You can't feel the road textures at all while driving the car, but it crashed loudly over larger bumps. Loud can als

2015 Honda Accord LX Sedan Long Term Update

Hey readers! It's been a long time since I've posted on this blog. In fact, it's been more than half a year. I'm really sorry to the negative three people who read this blog regularly, but here is a new post! School is finally winding down, so I thought that I'd review the new Accord my family bought last September and give an update on how it's doing.  In the highly-competitive, yet stagnating, field of midsize family sedans, the Accord has reigned as the best or second-best seller for many years. After a controversial eighth generation that ran from 2008 to 2012, the ninth generation is considered Honda's comeback to producing quality products.

Big News: We Bought a New Car!

It is an exciting day for me! As the title says, my family bought a new car! We haven't done that since 10 years ago when we bought our 2006 Nissan Sentra.  There it is, parked on the driveway right after we drove home from the dealership. Isn't the color so nice? The interior is beige, too! It's the perfect color combination.  Getting that car to be on our driveway, though, was a laborious and drawn-out task. We started car-shopping yesterday morning, when my dad and I test drove the Camry and Accord.  At first, we headed for the Ford dealer intending to test drive the Taurus and Fusion, but it shunned us by saying that it was "too busy for test drives." There were maybe two other people at the dealership then. Whatever.  We then headed to a semi-rural Honda dealership in search of an Accord. I was expecting it to be loud and firm-riding in traditional Honda fashion. Instead, it impressed me with its solidity. Unfortunately, the specific Accord we test
